Ask Dr. Cates
Questions to Ask a Potential Pediatrician | | | QUESTION | | | Dear Dr. Cates, What questions should I ask a pediatrician before we decide to use them? Hesantone in West Bloomfield, MI | | | ANSWER | July 22, 2002 | | | Dear Hesantone, I am pleased that you are being so careful about selecting your child's healthcare provider. The exact questions you ask will depend, in large part, on your child's and your family's needs. In addition to asking if the person has board certification in pediatrics, you'll need to know how the practice operates (e.g., hours, who is available to help after hours and on holidays, etc.). For a more complete list of considerations see our article "Choosing Your Child's Healthcare Provider: 10 Things to Consider." Remember that no matter how well qualified and convenient a given practitioner may be, if you are not comfortable with her, you should keep looking. by Lynn Cates, M.D., F.A.A.P. |
