SUBJECT: acting out tragedy with toys
I have been concerned the last few days with my 8 year old son's behavior. He is acting out at home and in school. I know it is a reaction to the events of the past few days. We have sat down and talked about what has happened. I have answered all his questions honestly. I feel he knows what has happened, but I am not sure of his clear understanding. He wants to take his toy planes to school tomorrow so he and his friend can play "hijack" in the sand pile and make a tall "sand building" to fall down when the planes hit it. Having taught his age group for 11 years before retiring I am not sure what to do. I know it is healthy for children to act these events out as it is a way of coping with it. On the other hand I am not sure I should let him. Any thoughts or advice on this situation would be greatly appreciated. He is an only child and has seen the reports on TV and has heard his father and I discussing everything. Thanks Trekcip
