Boyfreind has 1 child already, but wants to contact him.

My Boyfreind( refered as Silly) has 1 son already from a previous relationship, He hasn't seen his son at all. His son is 3 years old and lives out of state. Silly wants to know how his son his and wants pictures. But Silly won't contact the Ex because of child support. What can I do to help him? We have a baby on the way and I can see the hurt in Silly's eyes. Silly says he wants to find out about his son but he's afraid of the worst thing that can happen. Can someone help me?
